Interesting Facts About Brian Ortega
Before making his UFC debut in 2014, Ortega maintained an impressive undefeated streak of 8–0. This undefeated run spanned over four years, with victories in promotions like Gladiator Challenge, Respect In The Cage (RTC), and Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA).
During this period, he clinched the RTC Featherweight Championship and successfully defended it in a notable display of his skills.
Ortega embarked on his martial arts journey at the tender age of 5, and by the age of 13, he was already immersed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.
His initial UFC bout was scheduled for May 2014 at The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale. Unfortunately, the fight was canceled when his opponent withdrew due to injury just days before the event.
Ortega eventually made his UFC debut in July 2014 at UFC on Fox 12, securing a victory via submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round. However, the result was later changed to ‘No Contest’ after he tested positive for drostanolone during a post-fight screening, leading to a 9-month suspension.

December 2017 marked a significant victory for Ortega at UFC Fight Night 123, where he won his bout in the second round by guillotine choke submission. This win extended his streak to 5 straight fights with finishes, making it the second-longest current win streak in the UFC featherweight division at the time, only behind Max Holloway.
March 2018 witnessed another milestone as Ortega defeated Frankie Edgar via knockout in the first round at UFC 222. This accomplishment made him the first man to ever finish Edgar in MMA.
In March 2020, Ortega found himself in the midst of controversy when a police report was filed against him for allegedly slapping rapper Jay Park during UFC 248. Jay Park was working as a guest translator for South Korean MMA and kickboxing talent Chan Sung Jung.
