Pahwa’s career began in the theatre with the well-known group “Theatre Workshops” in Delhi. Her great work in famous plays like “Desire Under the Elms” and “Hayavadana” prepared her for future roles in movies.
Pahwa’s entry into Hindi movies started in the late 1980s with Mira Nair’s “Salaam Bombay!” Even with a small role, her strong performance gained positive attention.
After marrying Manoj Pahwa, she took a short break, making a comeback in the early 2000s.
