• Born on February 14, 1933, in Delhi, British India, as Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi, Madhubala was the fifth of eleven children. The family faced hardships after her father lost his job, leading them to relocate to Bombay.

• Tragedy struck early in her life as two brothers and three sisters passed away between the ages of five and six. Their home was destroyed in the infamous dock explosion and fire incident in 1944, but the family miraculously survived.

• At a tender age, Madhubala began seeking work in film studios, eventually making her debut in the 1942 film “Basant” at the age of nine, marking the beginning of her illustrious career.

• Her breakthrough came in 1947 with “Neel Kamal” opposite Raj Kapoor, followed by critical acclaim in Kamal Amrohi’s “Mahal” (1949), Bollywood’s first reincarnation thriller.
